Meet Dr. Ivy Nguyen: A Personalized Approach to Hand Surgery

October 19, 2026Ivy Nguyen

A new chapter in hand and upper extremity care is beginning in North Texas.

On October 27, 2026, I’m excited to welcome patients to my orthopedic hand and upper extremity surgery practice in Grapevine & Fort Worth, Texas.

Opening this practice marks an exciting milestone in my journey as a surgeon. More importantly, it represents an opportunity to build meaningful relationships with patients and provide the kind of personalized, thoughtful care I believe everyone deserves.

As I prepare to open my doors, I’d love to share a little about myself, why I chose hand surgery, and what you can expect from my approach to patient care.

A Passion for Precision and Problem-Solving

My journey into medicine began with a fascination for how things work.

Growing up in Austin, Texas, I developed an interest in science and problem-solving that eventually led me to Stanford University, where I studied bioengineering. I was captivated by the remarkable design of the human body and the ways engineering principles could help us better understand its function.

That curiosity ultimately led me to medicine, where I discovered the opportunity to combine technical precision with something even more meaningful: helping people.

I attended UT Southwestern Medical School and completed my orthopedic surgery residency at UT Southwestern/Parkland Memorial Hospital, where I developed a strong foundation in orthopedic care and surgical techniques.

Throughout my training, I was drawn to the intricate anatomy of the hand and upper extremity. Few areas of the body combine such remarkable complexity with such an essential role in everyday life. This led me to pursue specialized fellowship training in hand surgery at Vanderbilt University.

Why Hand Surgery?

Our hands are central to nearly everything we do.

They allow us to work, create, connect with loved ones, pursue our passions, and perform countless everyday activities we often take for granted.

When pain, weakness, numbness, or injury interferes with these abilities, even simple tasks can become frustrating.

What I love most about hand surgery is the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in these moments. Whether helping someone return to a favorite hobby, regain independence, or simply perform daily activities more comfortably, my goal is to restore function and improve quality of life.

And despite the name of my specialty, not every hand condition requires surgery. I believe in exploring appropriate treatment options and helping patients make informed decisions about their care.

A Different Kind of Patient Experience

I believe exceptional medical care begins with listening.

Every patient has a unique story, and understanding how a condition affects their life is just as important as understanding the diagnosis itself.

My approach centers on three principles: precision, compassion, and trust.

I strive to provide thoughtful evaluations, clear explanations, and treatment plans tailored to each patient’s individual needs and goals.

Most importantly, I want my patients to feel heard, respected, and confident in the care they receive.

Whether we’re discussing conservative treatment options or planning a surgical procedure, my commitment is to treat every patient with the same attention and consideration I would want for my own family.

Comprehensive Hand & Upper Extremity Care

My practice offers evaluation and treatment for a wide range of conditions affecting the hand, wrist, and upper extremity, including:

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome and other nerve compression conditions
  • Trigger finger and tendon disorders
  • Hand, wrist, and elbow arthritis
  • Fractures and traumatic injuries
  • Hand and wrist cysts and masses
  • Sports-related injuries
  • Hand stiffness and contractures

My goal is to help patients better understand their condition, explore their treatment options, and take meaningful steps toward improved comfort and function.

Welcome to Hands by Ivy

As I begin this new chapter, I’m incredibly grateful for the mentors, colleagues, friends, and family who have supported me throughout my journey.

I’m equally excited about the opportunity to become part of the Dallas–Fort Worth community and build lasting relationships with the patients who entrust me with their care.

I look forward to welcoming you to my practice and helping you return to doing the things you love.

Here’s to a new beginning, and to putting your hands in good hands.

Warmly,

Dr. Ivy Nguyen
